When The Power Of Your Mind Plays Its Part!!

Around two weeks ago, I stumbled upon a 2017 documentary by Nike and National Geographic whose aim was to showcase an attempt to break the Marathon’s two-hour barrier. This project was actually began by Nike in 2014, named Breaking 2 and it involved Eliud Kipchoge, Zersenay Tadese and Lelisa Desisa after screening of various athletes. The 26.2 miles race took place at the Monza Formula 1 racetrack, near Milan, Italy which was notably not open to the public.

It was truly interesting to see the preparations of around two years that involved scientists who worked intensely on the various dynamics to get the three athletes to run below two hours. So there was the aspect of nutrition, weather, recovery and genetics. There was also an attempt before the main race that helped all involved parties to improve further on the details of the preparations.

Just to make it clear, the aim of this post is not to promote any product. However, much appreciation is definitely from the insides of me for the much effort, time and finances put into the thought, preparation and actual deliberate attempt to overcome the barrier. I, for one, was not even aware of the great fear that people had concerning this subject matter. That it is extremely impossible to achieveπŸ€”πŸ˜±πŸ˜©πŸ™†πŸ™‰!!

Before watching this video, I had been in a season of my life that needed much confession and visualization of my heart’s desires to become a better person. To be more precise, I would literally take a few minutes every now and then or when my mind reminded me of this commitment (OopsπŸ˜‡!!) to just think through the day’s events which led to thinking of my life. This visualization topic was truly nailed in my brain when I listened to a certain preacher on TV who I also stumbled upon….cannot remember her name to be honest but the message stuck with me. I must point out that the little research on this topic on the internet led me to a lot of promotion of material prosperity gospel which is not really my aim πŸ€πŸ˜¬πŸ€—!!

My focus of late has been to tame my thoughts from overrunning, so, that has often forced me to literally lock myself in my room and stay silent after the end of an eventful day. The process of filtering my emotions and finding the root cause has been a deliberate process of loving me. This also allows me to be true to myself to firstly improve the relationship with the inner me through better understanding and evaluation.

Now back to Breaking 2, my highlight of the documentary was Eliud Kipchoge. Not because he won the race with a 2:00:25 eecord and neither is it because he is Kenyan and a great legend in world athletics. But simply because of the state of mind he portrayed throughout. The confessions of his mouth were truly inspiring to me. They were not filled with pride of his own abilities or experiences but more of humility. Even the scientists working alongside him could note the same trait. He oozed out confidence in how he handled himself!! You cannot truly understand what am saying until you watch this video.

To be honest, just thinking about it, reminds me of Jesus….you know the movies of him walking with a gentle spirit teaching, feeding, and encouraging all those around him. But despite that lowly appearance, within him lied great powerπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ˜‡πŸ˜Š!! And he did great miracles and wonders with the same personality. Oh how far am I from this perfection but I choose to be inspired and encouraged to press on this journey!!

Hope you get motivated and encouraged as I was when you read and watch the video. God bless and see you next week FridayπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‡πŸ˜‰!!

Five Ways To The Success Of Your Resolutions πŸ˜‡πŸ˜Š!!

Once upon a time, there was a man who had a project to accomplish within seven days. He had clear strategy and vision in him. So he decided to clearly articulate the details to all those under him before the start of the actual implementation. The next morning, this man rose early and the work began.

There were daily and specific tasks for all his people to do. They respected and trusted their leader to follow all his instructions to the latter. This was contributed to the fact that they benefited a lot from previous successful projects led by him. And so they had faith in him and no one disputed the tasks assigned to them. And on this specific project, they had much success on the seventh day. They managed to win against their competitors who seemed really capable of defeating them at the job.

After a victory celebration, the man reviewed their success and remembered during step 2 in setting of resolutions, they received much assistance from a connection they encountered. He made sure that his appreciation was delivered. The end of this story leads to the beginning of the continuation of last week’s post, hoping you had time to honestly and critically evaluate yourself together with your goals.

What do you need to ensure that you accomplish the right goals? Well, in my opinion, the following ways can assist.

  1. Ensure You Have Fulfilled Steps 1 to 3. I mean, there is no way you can achieve any goals if you do not have any to achieve in the first place. Let them be resolutions. Feel free to read the previous post again. Have some vision of where you want to be and come up with ways you think can lead you to your destination. Get some research done about your objective if you do not have all the information. While you do all this, trust yourself to do the things you set out to do. Believe in yourself. I should nail this to my head every day πŸ˜‰!!
  2. Do Not Allow Pride To Stand In Your Way. Since you are not a jack of all trades, do not be afraid to seek help in the actual implementation. I would suggest pray for guidance for people who can be part of your goals. My prayer for a long time has been to ask God to connect me to people that I need to be connected to for the purpose of my life.
  3. Communicate Well. This is not only for you to have it clearly in your head but also to those who are walking with you in your journey. Be willing to share and speak about your vision. Speaking with clarity brings out the confidence others will have of you. It helps raise trust and faith in them, meaning, they will eventually reciprocate by working hard on their part. When all is said and done, one thing am sure of is success that comes from God’s wisdom and guidance in all these steps.
  4. Give It Time. Well this one is also for me. Patience is not my cup of tea and this is a daily struggle of working to improvement. This is a personal area that I pray for grace to be sufficient but also acknowledge that I need to follow deliberate measures to become better. So with regards to resolutions, I plead with you to be patient and allow for process (quoting a friend of mine who sings this to me) to bring out the desired fruits. The story above is of a man who not only had vision and strategy but knew very well, he could not finish the project within one or two days but seven days. For others, this can be weeks or months or even years. Ever heard of the 10,000 hour or 10 years rule. This is from Outliers:The Story Of Success by Malcolm Gladwell. The author noted that almost all musical masterpieces were written after 10 years of the composer’s career. Out of 500 pieces that he studied, there were only three exceptions, which were written in years eight and nine.
  5. Celebrate. After reaching your destination, do not forget to celebrate yourself and all those that held your hand along the way. This is following the example of our creator who rested on the seventh day after fulfilling His own project. You can also celebrate your failures as lessons on future goals. I need to remember this also πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰!!

So, I had promised to reveal the book in today’s post as the source of the ways to set and achieve resolutions. And yes I will do. So here it is:The story at the beginning of this post including all the information I have shared since last week Friday is from the Book of Joshua πŸ˜‡! Today’s post is specifically from Joshua chapter one, verse one to twenty seven. I picked out sections of chapter one to six for last week’s post. How this came about is when I watched a movie about Joshua’s story on television (Hope TV which is affiliated to my church) on a children’s christian movie, Super Book. Over time, I have come to acknowledge and appreciate that God’s word has all the answers to all life’s questions!!

Am glad I wrote this as everything I have written speaks to me and I very much identify with it all. Thank you so much for making time to read and please free to comment or reach out to in any of my social media handles below. God bless and see you next week πŸ˜‡!!

Three Ways On How To Set The Right Resolutions!!

In about a month’s time or so, the year 2018 will surely be half spent. A reader of my previous post felt confident to comment on her expectation that was not met. She expected that I suggest a book that would to guide in setting right resolutions. The post she was referring to is “What are your Big Four…?? based on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s state of the nation address on 2nd May 2018.

Personally, I have been in a very anxious place in my life that has seemed to perfect my impatient tendency. Even as I led a home-based Bible Study session this past Monday, picking out Phil 4:4-9 was in a selfish aim to get help from the larger body of Christ. I was glad to know am not the only one as the devil would want me believe.

So to answer my beloved reader, let me attempt to give successful methods to ensure we fulfill our plans and resolutions from this book that I read. Well this book has been severally referenced by so many great and successful people in this world. So here goes, a few points that I managed to pick out! Just to point out that this is definitely not the exhaustive list.

Image by Neven Krcmarek via Unsplash

  1. Trust The Soldier In You….πŸ’ͺ!! How do you view yourself as you pen down your plans? Do you feel honestly feel capable of achieving your new year resolutions? Or are you writing just to conform to the pattern of this world…the trend? Your self image plays a very critical in the quality of plans that you will write down leave alone working towards achieving them. Meaning the desires of an ant can never be compared to those of an elephant. These two differ mainly in their views and perspectives of the world. You are much more than you give your credit to be..πŸ€‘πŸ€”. You need to remind yourself of who you really are. This should not be based on your previous or current circumstances but on the hope of a better future life. This forms a great foundation to success or failure in achieving your goals as it feeds directly into the next stages.
  2. You Need To Up Your Spying Skills..πŸ”πŸ•΅!! Yeah I know, we need James Bond’s contact for some tips..πŸ˜•πŸ˜Š!! There is definitely need to find more insight in a narrowed perspective of the specific interest you would want to pump your efforts/time, finances, relationships/family/networks into. One thing to consider here is the quality and quantity of information sufficient to assist you make vital decisions.
  3. What Do You Have In Your Hands…πŸ€”πŸ€·?? What are you good at? What is your skill/financial capability/time availability/commitment? Am sure we have heard this bit before. However, my focus today is opening our eyes to what we may not think we are capable of achieving. Personally, for a larger part of my life, I thought I loved numbers until I found more satisfaction in writing. You can find out more about yourself by what other people compliment you on that you have ignored all these years. There is also the sure way of prayer πŸ™ The choice is yours! Whose report you will believe?

The above three points are just the first part of ways that can guide you in setting your resolutions. And yes, I know I have not shared the book till now and this might be out of the selfishness creeping into me. So what I would do is promise to give you the title and author of the book in my next post which will focus on the ways to achieve your resolutions.

My reason mainly is to give you time to think through the above points and honestly evaluate where you stand with all your answers to the questions above. Then hopefully we can continue to the next stage of actual implementation. So God willing, see you next week Friday!! God bless πŸ˜‡πŸ™‚ !!

What Are Your “Big Four”?…πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ˜‡

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta delivered his State of Nation address to a joint session of the Senate and the National Assembly. He expressed his dream of transforming Kenya through the Big Four Agenda that includes Universal Healthcare, Manufacturing, Affordable Housing and Food Security. This comes as a priority in his second term in office.

In the same way companies, whether private or public, set objectives aligned with time deadlines that would go along way in meeting their goals of success. This is mostly done at the start of a financial year or specific projects. Coming a bit closer to the aim of this post is the existence of the common trend of setting resolutions for individuals and even families which often occurs in the beginning of a time period like the calendar year. This is quite similar to the objectives set in an annual staff performance appraisal in the workplace.

In a few months I will be turning one year older and I must admit the address by the President stirred my thinking….all political inclinations aside!! My bedroom has plenty of sticky notes with things I desire God to fulfill in my life. A bit more of such reminders are in the living room and kitchen too…😊.

For those now thinking, this post’s aim is to emphasise the need to focus on what you could do for God instead of vice versa, well, please lower your expectations….though not to diminish the vitality of this aspect in anyone’s life. So, the focus today is really to narrow down on the individual’s goals to those that can help one grow to a better version of themselves….sort of a self-help theme!

In the spirit of leading by example, my “Big Four” agenda as I look forward to my birthday include:

  1. Love Me More. Yes, I want to love myself more. One way I plan to do this is to actively filter my thoughts. I desire to see more positivity in my thinking pattern. In addition, increase my answers to NO if I truly feel that is the right and true answer…All the best to meπŸ˜€.
  2. Show The Real Me. Many people truly think am an extrovert because of my talkativeness and sometimes loud personality. This has been a coping mechanism to the outside world that has been perfected over so many years. I often go home feeling very tired of the smiling and laughing and especially the talking. I recall watching a movie once years back of Sandra Bullock where she worked indoors throughout. Can’t recall its name but I remember wishing for such a job where I would not have to meet people and do much talking. Life has not allowed me to do so and hence the adjustment 😊.
  3. Forgive More Often and Quickly. Yes, this holding grudge business tends to take a toll on someone. My greatest concern has been on my spiritual walk and my desire to grow even more. The more need to shed this off me for the greater purpose of my life.
  4. Take Things Easy. Those who have watched my videos or heard me speak, do know that am a fast talker. Sometimes too slow for the speed of my thoughts. Yes, my thoughts tend to outrun my words leading to my assumptions sometimes that I have actually spoken what is in my mind in the midst of a conversation. Other times, I proceed to speak the second sentence in my mind assuming that I already spoke the first one…Oops! Been trying to get control of this if I am to become a good public speaker. This definitely has to be under better control.

Once again, all the best to me on my agenda πŸ™. So what are yours? What is it that the inner you needs to improve on? If you desire some guidance on how to come up with yours, I believe the Fruit Of The Holy Spirit will do. Please note it is not the fruits but rather the fruit!!
Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

All the best in drafting yours and many more wishes of grace in their achievements. God bless and see you next week Friday!πŸ˜‡πŸ€—πŸ˜Š
